Even though scientific research slowly evaluates the medicinal qualities of cannabis, the public is becoming increasingly aware of the miraculous qualities of this plant.
Recent research has made the governments in North America decide to loosen restrictions on the medical use of marijuana, so it is now easier to find it.
Cannabis undoubtedly treats many illnesses, so if you prepare this cannabis coconut oil, you will reap all its benefits!
The cold-pressed virgin coconut oil is full of nutrients, and acts as a carrier, as it is a flavorful oil, so it is ideal for spices and herbs which are used medicinally.
It has potent antioxidant and antibacterial properties and cleanses and hydrates the skin.
Every single body cell benefits from its consumption, and it also balances hormones, soothes inflammation, regulates cholesterol levels, relieves pain, boosts metabolism, promotes brain and digestive health, treats depression, and destroys cancer cells.
>These incredible health benefits are mostly due to the medium-chain fatty acids.
On the other hand, cannabis has been used as an alternative medicine in the case of pain, nausea, asthma, and anxiety for thousands of years. It soothes inflammation, which is always a precursor to illness and disease.
In the last decades, studies have shown that it is extremely useful in the treatment of cancer, epilepsy, Crohn’s disease and other immune system-related digestive disorders, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, epilepsy, and more.
Its benefits are a result of the fact that human cells have receptors specifically for cannabinoids, even in the brain, meaning that it can also be used to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases.
strong>Cannabis and Coconut Oil
Cannabis, like all plants, can be of many varieties. The two most active phytochemicals in marijuana are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The fact that they are fat soluble is another reason why coconut oil is perfect in the combination.
THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis, CBD is not. Marijuana strains which are rich in THC are better in the treatments of glaucoma, asthma, nausea, pain, digestive and sleep disorders:
“Some cannabinoid agonists (WIN 55212-2, anandamide) have demonstrated, in experimental studies, to act as «ideal drugs» in the management of glaucoma, as they have been shown to have good tolerability after topical application, efficiently reduce intraocular pressure, and behave as neuroprotectors on retinal ganglion cells.”
The increased concentrations of CBD show better results for the treatment of seizures, tumors, cancer, chronic pain, seizures, psychological and neurological disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
“CBD seems to offer natural protection against the marijuana high. Numerous studies suggest that CBD acts to reduce the intoxicating effects of THC, such as memory impairment and paranoia.
CBD also appears to counteract the sleep-inducing effects of THC, which may explain why some strains of cannabis are known to increase alertness.
Both CBD and THC have been found to present no risk of lethal overdose. However, to reduce potential side effects, medical users may be better off using cannabis with higher levels of CBD.”
Sativa family flowers are higher in CBD, while the indica varieties are higher in THC.
Namely, raw cannabis has no psychoactive qualities, but while heating, a chemical reaction occurs in which the tetrahydrocannbinolic acid (THCA) in cannabis loses a carbon atom, and thus forms THC.
This decarboxylating procedure prior to its use in food, tinctures, or a skin balm, provides most protective effects, as THC more readily attaches to cannabinoid receptors in the body than THCA.
If you would like to try the effects of cannabis, we give you a simple recipe. It is easy to make, but it might be more difficult to find the cannabis variety that suits you the most.
Cannabis Coconut Oil- recipe
Initially, you need to decarboxylate the cannabis, meaning that you should heat marijuana to release its THC and activate the healing compounds.
You will need:
- One ounce of cannabis buds
- A baking sheet
- Parchment paper
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 240°F/115°C. Then, with the hands, break up the cannabis buds into smaller pieces and spread one layer on a parchment-lines rimmed baking sheet.
Leave no empty spaces between the marijuana. Bake for 30-40 minutes, tossing every 10 minutes. As soon as the cannabis becomes darker in color and dried, remove it from the oven, and leave it to cool.
Then, ground it coarsely in a blender or food processor. Keep it in an airtight glass container.
Here is how to prepare the oil:
Ingredients:
- 1 gram decarboxylated marijuana
- 1 ounce cold-pressed virgin coconut oil
Instructions:
In a glass jar, add the crushed marijuana and the coconut oil, tightly fit the lid and place in a saucepan full of water. Over a low heat, heat the water slowly for an hour, without boiling.
Next, strain the solids in the oil with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, and transfer it into another sturdy glass jar. Then, just squeeze the liquid from the cannabis into the oil.
Use:
You can either consume the oil or use it topically. You can eat the solids you have removed as well, cooked or baked in your meals. Also, you can use this oil in cooking. Yet, make sure you avoid high heat, in order not to cook out the active marijuana compounds.
